Gujarat tourism department spends more than Rs 36 crore on developing landmarks in Vadnagar

Gujarat tourism department has spent as much as Rs 36.61crore on development work in Vadnagar over the past two years. This was revealed during question hour in the Assembly on Monday.

The department spent money on giving a facelift to Hatkeshwar temple, Sharmishtha lake, Tanariri park, Lateri Vav and Somnath Mahadev Road. Of the total 13 spots listed for development in Mehsana and Gandhinagar districts, most are religious places, revealed Tourism Minister Ganpat Vasava. 

He was answering questions regarding State government’s expendituate to develop tourist places in Mehsana and Gandhinagar in last two years. He replied, “A total of 10 tourist places in Mehsana district were developed in this period. Of this 10 places including three stretches comprising Somnath Mahadev road, Hatkeshwar temple, Sharmishtha lake, Tanariri Park, Lateri Vav and a theme park are in Vadnagar.”

The lake is where Modi, as a Class 8 student, is said to have successfully fought off a crocodile. Of Rs 38.57 crore allotted to Mehsana district, as much as Rs 36.61crore was spent on Vadnagar. The government spent Rs 4.41crore on Hatkeshwar temple in 2016 and Rs 1.03 crore on Somnath road in 2017. Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited his hometown last October.
